1. Define the humanities and discuss the role they play in your life. Stanford humanities center defined the humanities as the study of how people process and document the human experience (Stanford Humanities). In order to understand our world, humans use philosophy, literature, religion, art and music. The knowledge of recording these human experiences gives us an opportunity to focus on our similarities and differences, and also to learn important lifeââ¬â¢s lesson. The textbook states that through arts, music, literature etc., important messages can be conveyed about many different subjects such as war, poverty, death, and other human conditions. Humanities can convey important life messages as stated the book through music, arts, stories,â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Contemplating a painting of Mona Lisa and listening to a selection of Beethoven make me think about how an artist s life affected our creative decisions. 2. How do music and art reflect human interest in morality? Does modern music negate or encourage morality? Art enhances our world, so does music. The text book mentioned visual art and how it affected our creative decisions. The visual arts do something that is almost inexplicable. Art touches the human soul. We value the visual arts and music because they reach us on a level that is at once universal and personal. Whether we are contemplating a painting or sculpture, we often break in tears by just looking at their beauty and the works that have been done on them. On the other hand, we can also feel the pain invoked by a work that depicts an injustice or cruelty. Humans are emotional creatures and visual art and music works of those emotions and provide a unique experience for us all. Music has changed over the years and there is a new trend. Centuries ago, I could say that music encourage morality, but not anymore in this present day. Like music in the 60ââ¬â¢s conveyed lifeâ⠬â¢s message even when The Beatles brought a dimension to popular music in the early arrival in the 60ââ¬â¢s , they produced songs that appealed to younger teens with concrete message , but the trend changed later when they started producing music advocating sex, drugs ,rocks. One example of a time that Americans attempted to alter or change the U.S. Government was during the civil war. At this time, Southern (Confederate) states tried to withdraw from the union. Another example is how since the 1990s, Texas has had certain pleas to leave the nation and become the Republic of Texas. An even more recent example is members and candidates of the Tea Party. You need to describe the groups and explain the abuses and usurpations that they object to fully. One group that I can think of off the top of head that definitely opposes American government is the terrorist group Al-Qaeda. Not only do they oppose American government but they really oppose all western countriesââ¬â¢ governments. They are a radical group that believes that the entirety of all governments will collapse when the U.S. falls and they consequently believe that these governments need to be replaced and taken over by Al-Qaeda leaders of the Sunni Islamic beliefs. I believe that this is entirely severe and irrational. I do not think that all of their problems with the U.S. are accurate however America certainly is not perfect either. On a slightly less severe note, another group in todayââ¬â¢s society that opposes U.S. government is militia men. They believe that government should be localized to individual counties and that these counties should be independent. They do not believe that they should be burdened to pay federal taxes or that they should have to register vehicles and any government duties that stray from local government. I do not believe that this is efficient for the current world that we live in.
